Most proposals that come to Seattle Peoples Fund come from small community-based nonprofit groups that serve populations that are vibrant and growing. Many of these organizations represent communities that are historically underserved and serve BIPOC and/or refugee or immigrant populations that have limited English proficiency, live on low incomes and experience barriers to health and well-being. These groups are fiercely dedicated to lifting up their communities’ brilliance.
Recognizing challenges faced by grassroots community organizations that have small budgets — many of which are often volunteer run — we have prioritized supporting those with limited resources, and have tailored our grantmaking processes to be accessible and supportive of their capacity. It is not unusual that submitting a proposal to our foundation is an organization’s first experience with grantseeking.
Between 2002 and 2024, we have awarded over 280 small grants - more than $750,000 in total - to more than 160 local organizations and community groups. Our grant awards have ranged from $500 to $5,000 and have supported a diverse range of projects that include festivals, forums, community gatherings, performances, film, exhibits, summer programs, trainings and workshops that have lifted up and strengthened communities across the Puget Sound region.
